Grant Will Help Centralize Perry County Government Services, Stambaugh Says
11/1/2024
HARRISBURG – A $1.5 million state grant awarded today to the Perry County Commissioners will support putting many of the county’s administrative offices − currently spread about in rented spaces − into one complex, according to Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Juniata).

The funding, through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), will be used by the commissioners to acquire land and hire architectural firms to plan and construct a new county office building. In 2021 and 2022, the project received separate RACP awards totaling $4 million.

“I applaud the commissioners for having the foresight to recognize how centralized services will provide long-term benefits for Perry County. Over time, the new structure will save a lot of taxpayer dollars through improved efficiencies and reduced maintenance and expenses,” Stambaugh said.

As envisioned, the building would house Perry County departments like Children and Youth Services, Area Agency on Aging, Domestic Relations, Probation and Parole, Tax Assessment, Veterans Affairs, GIS & mapping, and the Planning Commission, among others. The new facility would also house Magisterial District Judge 41-3-04 offices.

“Building infrastructure, creating efficiencies, and serving the needs of residents are priorities. I am glad to see these funds being directed to a project that will have such a significant impact in Perry County,” said Sen. Greg Rothman, R-Dauphin/Perry/Cumberland.

RACP grants support the design, acquisition, and construction of regional, economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. They are administered by the Office of the Budget.
