Newport School District Receives Grants for Rooftop Solar, Stambaugh Announces

HARRISBURG – Newport School District received $960,000 in state grants to place solar panels on the roofs of two school buildings, Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Juniata) announced.

“I have long been a supporter of an all-of-the-above approach to fulfilling our energy needs,” Stambaugh said. “These solar projects, allowing the district to supply self-produced power, will save taxpayer dollars on electric bills over the life of the arrays. In addition, the systems can offer students learning opportunities.”

The funding, coming through the Solar for Schools Grant Program, will be distributed equally to Newport Elementary School and Newport High School.
