Stambaugh, Rothman: Perry County Receives $1.2 Million in State Grants

HARRISBURG – More than $1.2 million in state grants were awarded through the Local Share Account (LSA) program to assist various initiatives in Perry County, Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Juniata) and Sen. Greg Rothman (R-Perry/Cumberland/Dauphin) announced.

“County and local governments, municipal authorities, and various groups in Perry County have been wildly successful over the past few years in landing state grants and low-interest loans, equaling tens of millions of dollars,” Stambaugh said. “That’s your tax dollars being returned and put to work to improve infrastructure and assist projects that enhance our communities. I have been proud to advocate for and support these efforts.”

The grants are as follows:
• Duncannon Borough: $350,000 for upgrades to its municipal-owned electric system that will support grid stability and resiliency surrounding proposed development of a new station for Duncannon Fire Company No. 1 as well as increased power demand from nearby homes and businesses.

• Howe Township Municipal Authority: $58,410 for the purchase and installation of an odor-control system at its sewage pump station.

• Landisburg Municipal Authority: $150,000 to buy and install sludge dewatering and ancillary equipment (sludge pump, polymer pump, dumpster, dewatering equipment, and piping conduit and wiring) at its wastewater treatment plant in Tyrone Township.

• Liverpool Borough: $76,750 to purchase a tractor with pull-behind mower and front-end loader to allow municipal workers to grade berms, mow encroaching vegetation, clear storm drains, move chemical shipments, and perform water and sewer system repairs.

• Marysville Borough: $150,000 to acquire a new dump truck for maintenance, construction, snow plowing and removal, leaf pickup, and many other jobs, and $83,597 for a police patrol SUV.

• Marysville Borough, on behalf of the Marysville Fire Company: $72,525 to replace the firehouse roof and HVAC system, as well as repair/repave the parking lot.

• Penn Township Municipal Authority: $260,000 to rehabilitate the Cove Pump Station (buy and install new pumps, control panels and wiring; replace the 30-kW backup generator and provide it with weatherproof housing).

“Supporting police and fire, critical infrastructure and essential local government services, these state grants will keep our communities safe and benefit taxpayers both now and in the future,” Rothman said. “I was glad to advocate for these important investments in Perry County.”

All the projects were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. The grants were funded through the LSA program, which is supported by revenue collected as part of Pennsylvania’s Gaming Act, not by taxpayer dollars.
